"Washington Local is so lucky to have first-year educator, Miss Manard, at Hiawatha as her inspiring dedication exudes warmth and grace! She maintains close relationships with her students and their families in and out of the classroom- Whether it be Class-Dojo well wishes, surprise visits to student sporting events, getting into character for Trunk-or-Treat, or playful participation in class pranks (her class pulls on her!). She does all of this while managing to put in the extra hours (that do not go unnoticed), for OGT Boost Camp and the Hiawatha TikTok page. Thank you for being such a leader in this community.. your genuine efforts and lasting positive impact are the true characteristics that define the word T E A C H E R ❤️"
Ms. Manard contributes so positively to kids, school culture and WLS!
We are lucky to have her!

"I just wanted to drop a note of praise for an outstanding bus driver. Mrs Brenda Brown has been our bus driver for the last few years and she has consistently been timely, kind, and professional. I have gone to the bus stop with my child pretty much every morning since Silvercreek opened. She always greets us with a smile and we exchange kind words and friendly banter. She has always given me a heads up if my child acts up or anything and I appreciate her honesty.
In my opinion, being a bus driver has to be one of the toughest jobs. I couldn't imagine being responsible for all of those children's safety everyday on the road. She is truly a blessing to this school system and if there were an award for best bus driver, I would nominate her every single year. The world could use more Mrs Brendas."

Our bus drivers are sometimes the FIRST interactions our students have each day and Ms. Brenda always makes sure it is a good one!

"I’d like to give a special staff shout-out to Amy Hannan, our art teacher at Greenwood, for her incredible thoughtfulness and dedication to our students.Amy recognized that a student was becoming overwhelmed due to sensory needs and, without being asked, took it upon herself to find a solution. On her own time and using her own resources, she created a sensory pouch for the student to carry and use whenever she needs sensory input. This small but powerful act has made a meaningful difference in helping the student feel supported and successful throughout the school day.Amy’s actions are a wonderful example of seeing a need, taking initiative, and putting students first. Thank you, Amy, for your kindness, creativity, and commitment to meeting students where they are—we are lucky to have you on our team."Ms. Hannan continues to give of herself for the betterment of her students and WLS. She is an educational superstar!

What they DON'T DO would be a much shorter list!
Thank you to our WLS Safety Aides!

"Diana Cicerella (Greenwood) has taught all 5 of my children and is now teaching (or has taught) several of my grandchildren! She has made music education enjoyable and taken the time to make sure students understand and enjoy the fundamentals of music! She forms unbreakable bonds with her students that keep going past graduation! She's a top notch teacher."
Top notch educator? That sounds exactly right!

Thank you Mrs. Re for being such a bright light in a challenging world."

"Mrs. Schober (Science, Washington) was always a fun teacher and there was rarely a day you wouldn’t see her being her bright talkative self. I’ve always seen teachers be “clean aesthetic” but she shows you can show your love for horror and your nerdy comics and love your own type of music!"
Teaching children that it's okay to be authentic; what a gift Ms. Schober gives her kids!

PARENT-to-STAFF SHOUT:
"This Saturday my son Andrew had a hockey game at the Huntington Center and he had requested I let his teacher Miss Browder (Meadowvale) know and asked that I invite her. He also asked that I invite his 2nd grade teacher Mrs.Hetzel, who has retired. Both of them showed up on this very cold day. They cheered him on and he was so excited when he saw them in the stands. Both of these amazing women go above and beyond. Andrew was so excited he had such a large cheering section and said it was the reason his team won 4-3 against a team that had beat them before this season."
Stories like these are so heart-warming, and lucky for us, they're also common in WLS from our FABULOUS staff!

"I’m now a freshman but in 7th and 8th Corrine Jaco was my favorite teacher. I felt she explained everything so much better than anyone would have ever could. And if it wasn’t for her class I wouldn’t have ever read 'A Child Called It.' She genuinely made my days brighter and even when she was overwhelmed she would still help us and be the fun teacher she was."
Taking the time to show gratitude for a teacher (as a freshman) shows just how wonderful Ms. Jaco is!
