*For those new to WLS, Snake Dance is our annual homecoming parade!
Our 1st and 2nd grade teachers dedicated a FULL day, collaborating in teams to design exciting, high-level reading & writing experiences. By working together to stretch creative thinking and spark exciting ideas, they are setting the stage for their students to soar!
"When my daughter started at the middle school she was very nervous for all of the unknowns. She felt like she didn’t know anybody nor any of her teachers. However, those nervous feelings changed very quickly when she walked in to Mrs. Warren’s class.
Mrs. Warren has very quickly made a tremendous impact on my daughter. She talks very highly of her at home, can’t wait to tell me what they did in class, and has mentioned more than once that Mrs. Warren is becoming one of her favorite teachers she’s ever had. Mrs. Warren has created a positive & welcoming environment that my daughter seems to be thriving in. I recently had to schedule her an appointment during the day which called for her having to miss Mrs. Warren’s class. My daughter let me know “Please don’t pull me out of Art again.” Coming from a student who wasn’t the biggest fan of art class to now it being her favorite one of the day speaks volumes of the atmosphere that Mrs. Warren creates.
Thank you Mrs. Warren for making the transition to middle school easier for my daughter & for being the amazing educator that you are!"

"My husband and I would like to give a shout out to Mr. James Nino, a teacher at Whitmer. Our child has had some struggles through high school trying to find the right people and ignoring those who are unkind. This year, (Senior year!) our child is excelling and growing because of people like Mr Nino.
Our student recently achieved a huge honor, and woke up the next morning to a "Congratulations!" email from Mr. Nino, telling her how proud he was of the achievement. He had no reason to do this. It had nothing to do with academics or his class. He just saw an opportunity to lift our student and took the time to do it.
The impact was immediate, with full smiles and confidence evident from the moment the email came.
Educators like Mr Nino truly make a difference in students' lives. Believing in them (and telling them!) keeps students on the right road to believing in themselves. This family greatly appreciates Mr. Nino and all WLS staff like him, who go above and beyond for the benefit of kids."

"I just want to spend some time talking about the impact that Meadowvale counselor Michelle Streeter has had on my youngest daughter, Lucy, and her academic confidence at school.
For context, my kiddo struggles to focus in classrooms full of other students and the quality of her work struggled as a result. Her MAP scores were reflective of this. When we spoke with Michelle Streeter about our concerns, we put a plan in place to give Lucy an opportunity to test in a small group setting with her. This change happened right around the winter testing window.
Then, something amazing happened (as they do when you speak of someone with Streeter's talent). Because she felt seen, Lucy locked in and gave her very best effort, taking 2.5 hours (with a break now and then to get the wiggles out). Because she felt seen, my daughter was able to improve 20+ points on her reading and math scores, individually. Because she felt seen, Lucy came home with a brighter smile on her face every day when I picked her up. That's what this job is all about, right there.
Lucy's eyes light up whenever she talks about her school counselor.
How cool.
Thank you for making a profound impact on the life of my baby girl. I will never forget it."

"'A BIG thank you to Ms. Patty Campbell at Meadowvale! She went above and beyond this week working with Meadowvale 5th graders who stayed on campus during camp week. Ms. Campbell kept her group organized, reinforced key academic skills, planned fun activities, and ensured seamless transitions into other classrooms. She was a total gem, and our students loved working with her!"

The WESTWOOD Building will have bricks available starting today Thursday 9/17 through the weekend, ending Sunday 9/20. There is no cost. The bricks will be outside the security fence along Harschal Drive. Please feel free to drop by at your leisure and take a brick for your memories!
