whitmer middle school

Washington Local Schools is proud to share that construction of the new middle school is right on track — both on time and on budget. The building’s structure is now up, with walls and joints in place, thanks in part to a pleasant summer with minimal rain delays.

Set to open in August 2026, the new facility will welcome more than 1,500 students in grades 6–8. The project is being completed in partnership with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC).

In 2019, Washington Local voters approved a 6.9-mill combined bond and operating levy. Under the agreement, if the district contributed 20% toward rebuilding costs, the state would cover the remaining 80%. The district’s share funded Shoreland and Silver Creek schools, and all construction moving forward — including the new middle school — is fully covered by the state.

This milestone marks not only an investment in new facilities, but also in the future of Washington Local students and the community.
