STAFF-TO-STAFF SHOUTOUT: "I just cannot say enough wonderful things about Beth Pohl, who organizes all the subs for the district in the HR Department. She is the perfect person to make a wonderful first impression on someone entering WLS. She is kind, patient and goes above and beyond to help others. Anyone who calls her office is treated with the most warm welcome and helpful demeanor. We are so lucky to have her in WLS. She is definitely a behind-the-scenes hero." Congrats to Washington Boys Track & Field for *another* win! At the Dee Clay Jr. High Invitational in Fostoria, these superstars beat out 13 other schools with NINE 1st place finishes out of 15 events. So impressive!

STAFF-TO-STAFF SHOUTOUT: "Molly Toney is in her first year as an assistant principal at Shoreland Elementary this year and what a YEAR it has been! She has navigated so many new (and unexpected) events - all with grace, compassion, persistence, dedication, and attentiveness. Her counseling background helps tremendously with both students and staff. She keeps students at the very core of every decision every day, which is what makes the admin team at Shoreland such a truly dynamic force. We could not have asked for a better brighter addition to Shoreland than Molly! " Ms. Toney is a gift to kids AND her coworkers! We are so inspired by her #integrity and #empathy!

PARENT SHOUT: "I would like to give a shout out to Ms. Marya Knuth at Washington Junior High for the support she provided to my daughter on Spring Break. The change in routine became very difficult emotionally for my girl and Ms. Knuth volunteered to be available several days during her break to work with her. The help and support Ms. Knuth provided was incredibly helpful to turn tears into smiles. Ms. Knuth’s willingness to go the extra mile for us and dedication to all of her students is truly admirable. She makes a big difference in her student's lives and success." Wow. We are so proud to hear this about our amazing teacher literally going the extra mile. Outstanding!

🎉Felicidades a nuestros Panthers!🎉 Miley, Liz and Kaylee (not pictured as she was not able to attend) were recognized along with other top students in the Toledo area by the Association of Two Toledos on April 9th for outstanding achievement in the study of the Spanish language and culture . These students also plan to pursue a minor in Spanish. Students and parents were invited to celebrate with a special ceremony and reception. Congratulations on your hard work, Panthers. Buena Suerte!

🚧The City of Toledo has started the relocation of Whitmer Drive. 🚧 ⚡FAST FIVE FACTS ⚡ 1. Whitmer Drive will remain OPEN in both directions for the duration of the school year. 2. The main parking lots are now CLOSED and will not reopen this school year. (Student parking wil be in the church parking lot on Alexis Rd). 3. We will have an adult crossing students at the crosswalk at Whitmer Drive and Alexis. 4. We will also utilize the temporary parking lot where the old YMCA and homes were located on the south end of Whitmer Drive. 5. Event parking will be located in the CTC parking lot, Fieldhouse parking lot, in front of Whitmer and along the fenceline of Edgar. We appreciate your patience as we navigate through this construction project, that will undoubtedly make our campus safer.

STAFF SHOUT: "Kristy Aeschliman, has been a WLS - ESL teacher (English as a Second Language) for the past 24 years, where she has provided unparalleled instruction and support to her students, many of whom come to Washington Local Schools with little to no understanding of the English language. Not only has she lovingly helped thousands of students navigate our intimidating language, she has never hesitated to assist staff with locating and implementing the most effective tools, strategies & resources for improved communication and student success across the curriculum (as I can personally attest). What Kristy brings to the lives of our K-12, ESL students is unsurpassed, as I have witnessed a caring exchange of genuine smiles, mutual respect, and ‘hopeful relief’ that pass between teacher and student, as they enter her classroom to begin their day. She is always willing and able to go above and beyond for staff and students alike, to ensure that each individual that she encounters is provided the necessary tools which are essential for success, not only in the classroom, but in LIFE!" Learning the English language can be overwhelming, but having kind, supportive teachers sure makes it better! Thank you Ms. A!

STAFF SHOUT: "I would like to shout out Meadowvale first grade teacher Jen Bicanovsky. She does SO much for her students and goes way out of her way to make learning fun. Most of her directions are in rhyme and the students love it! It is very apparent she cares about her students very much. They are always reminded that each one is part of her school family. Jen is also known for being the most giving and thoughtful person. She really loves to give without ever expecting anything in return. If you don't know who she is, just look for the line of former students outside of her door each morning waiting to give her a hug!" Ms. B is one-of-a-kind and among the most THOUGHTFUL people you'll meet! We are definitely lucky to have her!
