Superintendent's Update - May 10, 2021

Good Morning Washington Local,

Thank you for filling out the survey to indicate your interest in having your 12-15 year old vaccinated. We are awaiting Health Department approval for the Pfizer vaccine for this age group. Once we receive that information, we will schedule a vaccine clinic. It does not appear it will happen in time for the Second Dose clinic at Whitmer this week. However, if you are 16 years or older and would like to receive your first dose, there are available appointments this Wednesday, May 12 at Whitmer High School. You can go to this link and use access code IPKZZCD1A7 to schedule a first dose. For those who have already received your first dose, please keep the appointment you were given when you received your first dose. If you are 16 or 17, you will need a parent consent form. Those can be found in the Senior Lobby. Anyone is welcome at the Whitmer Vaccine Clinic this Wednesday as long as you pre-register for an appointment. You do not need to be a student or Washington Local resident.

This Wednesday, we celebrate National School Nurse Day. It's been an incredibly challenging year for our School Nurses and we want to send them all the love we can. More than ever, we've depended on these all-stars to provide support, advice, and comfort in addition to their regular duties. Our Washington Local nurses have gone above and beyond in communicating with families about the latest COVID information this year and we couldn't be more grateful. Thank you Nurses Graver, Haas, Kraus, Win-Szafarowicz, and Worstell.

This week we have had a few inquiries about masks. Lucas County has the highest incidence rate of COVID in the entire state. We will continue to wear masks, practice hand hygiene, and keep all of our current safety measures in place through the end of the year. Although we are all anxious for things to return to normal, we have just a few weeks until summer break and our primary goal is to slide into summer safe and healthy.

Have a great week! Stay well!
